The days of CRT monitors are gone, and manufacturing is almost obsolete. LCD monitors have replaced them due to the lightweight and smaller size.

Are LCD monitor's better than CRT'?

In terms of weight size and efficiency, Yes, but when it comes to image quality, color rendering and some other features, CRT wins the crown. .

When we buy an LCD monitor you have a list of things that needs to be looked into. We will discuss them on a later chapter. After purchasing an LCD monitor, you need to calibrate it so it shows colors accurate colors.

What is Color Calibration?

The process of adjusting the displayed colors so they look closer to the natural colors is called color calibration. In LCD monitors, you need to calibrate the colors so you see the colours  closer to how they look in real. Each manufacturer build their LCD's keeping in mind a targeted audience for instance, those who are concerned in energy efficiency.. so the default settings might not suit all occations.

You will come across a time when you see a picture absolutely wonderful in your monitor, but when you see the same thing on someone elses monitor looking dull.

One of those monitores is badly calibrated and thats why the image looks diffewrent in both.

Why is it important to Calibrate your monitor?

I will give you an example from which I came to know about color calibration.

I'm a photographer and  there were times when I was spending several hours and sometimes days tweaking my photographs. When they were ready for publishing, they looked awsome! I was thrilled. After publishing them on filckr and facebook, I expected to receive huge amount of wow's and likes, but sadly I had pretty much no feedback at all...

When I checked my images on my office computer, I noticed that the colors looked too dark and dull. Overall, the image looked completely different than I expected. I have attached that image below, so you can get an idea.

I was able to see recognize the person and the dock he was standing on. They had a lot of details. The distant beach was also visible but little did I know that others were not going to see all these details or the beauty I saw.., all they would see will be an under exposed photograph
